Can the ‘President’ become the ‘King’?
After winning the Presidents Cup at Speedway City in Adelaide last month, Shane Krikke, Brooke Tatnell and the Krikke MotorSport team are now out chasing to become the Nanovich King of Wings.
Last night at the Perth Motorplex Kwinana Beach, the Krikke MotorSport team and Brooke Tatnell were looking to end their run of hard luck stories of late in WA with a good result for night one of the Nanovich King of Wings. And they weren’t dissapointed.
Their qualifying in time trials looked set to send them on another challenging night, finishing in 21st position, but they fought back through the night and proved why they are one of Australia’s leading race car teams.
Starting from position seven in their heat Tatnell managed to steer his Toyota Genuine Parts / Maxwill / Cool car into 4th position, crossing the line closely behind the leading 3 cars. This great result placed them into the A Dash with a last row start and on a fast track, he managed to come home in fourth place, passing Luch Monte on the final lap and finishing behind Robbie Farr, Jamie Maiolo and Mark Wells.
With a track that was getting faster and racier and with a great field of drivers in front of him, Tatnell needed to have his racing face on if he was going to be a podium finisher in the preliminary A Main... And that he did.
Lining up on the starting grid in 7th spot the Krikke Motorsport Toyota Genuine Parts/Maxwill/Cool Australia #1 machine was driven remarkably by Tatnell as he moved his way through the field on the 25 lap event to cross the line and take the chequer in 2nd position behind WA’s Ryan Farrell. But after the race had finished and the cars had been weighed, Farrell’s car was 8lbs underweight and he was disqualified. This allowed the KMS team the win and a great place to be in for tomorrow nights finale of the Nanovich King of Wings.
Shane Krikke after the race "This is very satisfying after coming from where we were last week at Bunbury to being very competitive here tonight. I felt we had one of the quickest cars tonight and we plan on capitalizing tomorrow night to finish off with a Kings crown here in the west"
Brooke after his drive "I knew we had a fast car & we would just have to wait and play the race out as it unfolded. This cars is as good as it ever has been & Pete, Shane & Ryan have given me something to work with. I love racing here in Perth and I would dearly love to meet the ‘General’ at the line tomorrow night"
Can Brooke Tatnell and the Krikke MotorSport team become the Kings? … Only time will tell.
Be there tonight at the Perth Motorplex Kwinana Beach and don’t forget to check out the cool Krikke MotorSport merchandise that is still available on-line or direct from the Team Transporter at the venue, stock is getting low so don’t miss out.
