BROOKE Tatnell has some unfinished business in Wanless World Series Sprintcars. Putting last year behind him he fired the first shots in the opening round of the 14-round series at the Perth Motorplex last night. Starting from position four Tatnell won the 30-lap shootout from Robbie Farr and defending champion Max Dumesny. It was a tough race that saw all three America drivers finish on the infield. Pole sitter Jason Johnson was out of the contest early, pulling infield with motor problems. Twelve laps into the event Carl Dowling got the #87 machine crossed up on the main straight forcing Mark Dobmeier and Donny Schatz together after they were fighting for fourth sport. Schatz went over while Dobmeier had too much rear-end damage to restart. Farr was the early leader and was into lapped traffic after seven laps. Tatnell went wide and raced around Farr on the restart but the pair of hardnosed racers traded places several times before Tatnell put the #1 Cool chassis into the outright lead. Tatnell was dominant in traffic and maintained a handy buffer over Farr and Monte. Max Dumesny tried his hardest to get onto the back of Farr but was unable to mount a serious challenge for second. In what proved a tough race for many big name drivers local driver Ryan Farrell was one of the many who were lapped by Tatnell on his way to the opening round win. Dowling won the B main from Mick Goode, Trevor Green, Farrell, Danny Reidy and Allan Haynes with all six making it to the main event. Kerry Madsen, who was undefeated at the Motorplex in his two previous outings at the Kwinana Beach venue, pulled up while leading the race. Farrell fired the opening salvo in the new series after he got the jump on fellow front-rower Shaun Bradford to win the 10-lap heat. Bradford mounted a serious challenge for the lead with three laps remaining but just as quickly pulled infield with a smoking engine. Schatz, who started from eight, charged through in the latter stages to claim third and was on Trevor Green’s tail as they took the flag. Goode was relegated one spot for passing on the infield. David Hall spun on the first corner of the first lap forcing a full restart. The next time around his brother Greg did the same thing but managed to keep the car rolling. Tatnell who started seventh, worked his way through the pack and went around the outside of Ricky Maiolo with two laps remaining to eventually win. Farr went inside Lack for third with a lap to go and seconds later Coyle spun in turn four, seeing the race declared with one lap remaining. Morton and Ben Ellement both had spectacular flames but kept going. McFadden showed plenty of pace in the #77 Morvale entry and after moving to the lead mid race put in one of the quickest laps of the night with a 13.92 second effort, backed by a series of low 14 second laps. Mann, in his first look at the Motorplex enjoyed fresh air in the fifth heat to take an easy win. Schatz put in a big charge late in the race but failed to mow down second placed Reilly on the finish line. Ricky Maiolo won the sixth heat from Murcott with local driver and winner of his first heat Liddleow, holding out Dumesny for fourth. Johnson too good with a series of 13 second laps to win the A Dash from Monte, Schatz, McFadden, Murcott and Ben Ellement, while Farr won the B Dash from Tatnell, Dobmeier, Jamie Maiolo, Dumesny and Priolo.
