Krikke Motorsport & Tatnell Win WWSS Sprintcars Round 4
18 November 2007 – Jane Alexander

ADELAIDE – Brooke Tatnell backed up his success in Western Australia with another win in the Toyota Genuine Parts/Cool/Maxwill car, at Round 4 of Wanless World Series Sprintcars at Adelaide’s Speedway City on Saturday 17 November 2007.

Tatnell driving for Krikke MotorSport qualified fourth with a 13.192-second lap.  He started the first Heat from the inside of the fifth row, and powered his #1 machine to eighth in the opening lap, and made up two more positions late in the race to finish sixth.

The five-time World Series Sprintcars Champion was scheduled to start from tenth in the second Heat, but the race was aborted twice after accidents on the opening lap.  On the restart, he started from fourth, and moved into second on lap one.  After running most of the race on the high line, Tatnell took over the lead with an outside pass with two laps to go, and took the Heat win.

The 3 time & current Australian Champion started the A Dash from the outside of the front row, and charged straight into the lead, to open up a gap over the field, and took the Dash win to earn pole for the
all-important A-Main.

Starting the 30-lap A-Main from pole allowed the Toyota Genuine Parts/Cool/Maxwill driver to take control of the race, opening up a quarter of a lap lead in the early stages.  Soon into lapped traffic, the KMS pilot bided his time to avoid any incidents passing slower cars.  He cautiously weaved his way through lapped traffic, before a yellow light stoppage with ten laps to go.  On the restart, Tatnell powered his machine away from the field and opened up another large gap.  With three laps to go, he again found himself in lapped traffic, but was not fazed by the slower cars, again weaving his way through to take his second win of the season.

Happy with his win, the Krikke MotorSport driver said, “We had a good night.  I mean the boys worked hard.  You know, we’re driving for the best team in the country, so I mean it makes our job really easy.  I think that’s probably the best we’ve been around Adelaide in a long time.  We’ve won here before, but the car was just so easy.  We were in cruise mode.  We got to those lapped cars and kept on hitting them two-wide, so we just had to bide our time and play it by ear and that’s what we did.  It’s just a credit to this whole race team.  They make you feel like you just walk back into your old favourite pair of jeans.  Every race car they build, you just drop in and go racing.  There’s nothing you have to do, there’s nothing that feels uncomfortable.  Cooley builds an awesome car and Peter Morris has done an awesome job with the motors this year.”

Krikke MotorSport Crew Chief Pete Caporn summed up the night’s racing saying, “We were pretty much on the pace the whole night.  We hit our straps, ran fourth in qualifying.  From there, we had the car pretty right and Brooke was comfortable.  We got very lucky in that one heat race; we were starting tenth and ended up starting fourth, and got to win that heat.  Got the right start and the right jump and he said he felt really comfortable in the car tonight, the best he’s ever felt.  He said he was getting around there in the open traffic where he could run where ever he wanted to.  Brooke said he could run as fast and wide open as he wanted to.  He said the lapped traffic there, he just didn’t want to be dictated by one of those guys and get taken out.  So all in all, it was a really good night.  It wasn’t much of a race track, but it was what we needed to do, and we did the job.”

Brooke Tatnell and the Krikke MotorSport Team will return to action at the fifth round of Wanless World Series Sprintcars, at the Brisbane Bullring, the infamous Brisbane International Speedway, on Saturday 24 November 2007.
