Sensational second place to Brooke in Outlaws Downunder shoot out.
Last weekend Brooke Tatnell racing the Toyota Genuine Parts/Maxwill/Cool took out a superb second place in the Outlaws Downunder V defeating all of the visiting American Outlaws stars in the process.
Rain marred the annual Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway Outlaws shoot out with both Friday and Saturday nights meeting postponed to Sunday and as Brooke wasn’t chasing series points, the Krikke Motorsports Australia One machine was in race winning mode.
With 64 of the very best American and local Australian racers on hand Brooke started his weekend campaign last Thursday night (January 17th) with a fast 12.388 second lap in time trails setting 11th best time. Brooke continued his “pedal to the metal” attitude picking up a 5th in his heat, 4th in Dash 2 and moving up one position in the preliminary A Main, finished night one in 7th position.
After a two days wait, racing was finally underway on Sunday and Brooke showed to all he and the Toyota Genuine Parts/Maxwill/Cool were racing at Parramatta for a victory and to give the American Outlaws stars something to think about. In qualifying Brooke posted a faster lap time to Thursday and with an 11.873 lap the #1 machine was 7th fastest. Like night one Brooke picked up 5th in his heat and was looking good starting from pole in the second dash. Rain again hit the Sydney venue and the dash races were cancelled giving Brooke position 2 in the A Main final.
In the 30 lapper, Brooke lost the battle for the lead settling into second before American Dollansky blasted by in traffic putting Brooke back into third. A slight engine problem saw the Krikke Motorsports Toyota Genuine Parts/Maxwill/Cool taking two or three laps to get up to speed at the restarts but when on full throttle Brooke was looking that he could pass the leading two cars and head for a victory. Only the couple stoppages which wrecked that plan, with the leading duo getting away at the restarts. Dollansky was a retirement allowing Brooke to claim second position at the checker. He have to defend his position a number of times from Outlaws star Joey Saldana but the Aussie built and run Cool of Brooke held his ground to hold the ultra strong American challenge of Saldana, Lasoski, Schatz, Meyers and Swindell behind.
Brooke said after the race, “We can walk away from here with a decent weekend. We came here to try a few things like a few different motor programs just to get us dialed in for the Australian title. It’s also been the first weekend we can set up and go race not worrying about points. In all we ran 7th and 2nd and congratulations to Robbie! It was one of those race tracks where the yellows differently helped him. He was the first car in lapped traffic. It took us about 3 laps to get up to speed but we will certainly figure that out before the next meeting. We didn’t take off well after the stoppages but you have good nights and bad. I’m not that disappointed with second and we did have a good run with the car all weekend.”
Krikke MotorSport’s next race will be The Classic at Warrnambool this weekend
