Tatnell Finishes Fourth at Night 2 of the Classic
The Krikke MotorSport Team have finished a solid fourth at Night 2 of the 36th running of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Warrnambool's Premier Speedway on Sunday 27 January 2008.
Tatnell, who was 18th in the points going into the second night, started Heat 1 from the outside of the second row, and moved into third on the opening lap. The Krikke MotorSport driver ran around the high line and weaved his way through lapped traffic, before an inside move late in the race saw him finish second.
The two-time Classic winner started Heat 2 from the inside of the third row, and powered his Toyota Genuine Parts/Maxwill Motors/Cool machine into third off the line, before a pass in turn one saw him move into second. Following a mid-race red light stoppage, Tatnell restarted in second, and held a late-race battle for the lead, finishing in the runner-up position a mere one-tenth of a second behind the leader.
The three-time and current Australian Sprintcar Champion started the 40-lap Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic A-Main from 12th. Tatnell moved into tenth in the opening laps, and staged enthralling battles as he made his way through the field. At half-race distance, the Krikke MotorSport driver had moved into eighth and continued his charge forward. Over the remainder of the race, which ran flag-to-flag, Tatnell weaved through lapped traffic and powered his Toyota Genuine Parts/Maxwill Motors/Cool machine around the high line and into fourth, giving the Krikke MotorSport Team a solid finish.
On the night’s results, Tatnell commented, "All in all, we salvaged a good fourth. Fourth’s never good, but it was a good one. As I say, I don’t think we did anything wrong all weekend, we just had bad luck that got us back that way. So, to run from where we did to fourth, I’m reasonably happy, so we’ll take it and just move on to the Title.”
Krikke MotorSport Team Owner Shane Krikke summed up the night saying, "It was actually quite a satisfying night. I mean normally when you come to one of these race meetings, you want to win, but given the fact that last night we had a blown up engine and got the front axle knocked out of the car, to actually start out of 12th and finish fourth, we are fairly satisfied. We could have had a yellow or two in there, and maybe we could have been in there with Jason [Johnson], Kerry [Madsen] and Max [Dumesny], but who knows. It was a good run, and we’ll carry a bit of momentum into the Australian Title and start again.”
Brooke Tatnell and the Krikke MotorSport Team will return to action at the Australian Sprintcar Title at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway, in Sydney, from 31 January 2008 to 2 February 2008.
Krikke MotorSport merchandise is now available on-line or direct from the Team Transporter at each venue.
