Crash halts Tatnell’s sensational 50 grand fight back.
The Krikke Motorsports team with Australian Champion Brooke Tatnell at the wheel
was staging a brilliant comeback in last weekend’s $50,000 to win sprintcar
International held at Sydney’s Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway. Having to battle
his way into the 40 lap A Main field, Brooke was looking great running around in 5th
place in the 24 car field. An incident with 20 times World of Outlaws Champion Steve
Kinser saw Brooke crashing out of the 50 thousand dollars to win final and a very
disappointed Australian Champ had to watch the remaining laps back in the pits.
Brooke racing his Australia One Toyota Genuine Parts Maxwill Engines Cool showed
why he is the current Australian champion as he battled his way forward in the Friday
qualifying night round of heat and Main races. Brooke forged forward in the B Main
taking out a superb victory and after starting the A main from position 20, the newly
built Cool chassis sprintcar blasted forward greeting the checker in a fast finishing fifth
place just missing out on being locked into the finals night dash races.
Brooke’s machine was certainly dialed into the Parramatta 460 metre clay track after
Saturday finals night was postponed to Sunday night due to rain leaving the
Parramatta track too waterlogged for racing. Brooke blasted into a race winning lead in
the opening heat and then going onto finish third in the A dash. Brooke was now
looking forward to a great 40 laps $50,000 to win feature starting the race from
position 5. In what was the best sprintcar field assembled this summer four top
American’s a host of the best local Australian’s racing Brooke certainly looked
confident running around in fifth place. He was definitely heading for a podium finish
but around mid race an incident saw Brooke crashing out of the race. American star
Steve Kinser was moving forward and looked to take Brooke up track going into turn
2, the pair touched with Brooke crashing out of the race.
It was a shame as the team had built up a new Aussie built Cool sprintcar for the
meeting and with the motor program running in top gear Friday night problems were
in the past and Brooke was certainly heading in the right direction.
Team owner Shane Krikke said after the meeting, “It’s very disappointing the way our
weekend finished. We were very happy the way the new car was going, the new
engine was working ok and I think we were looking good. No one could have beaten
Donny Schatz on a track like that but to be involved in an incident with a guy with so
much experience, it’s disappointing. He shouldn’t have done a move like that.”
Brooke and the Toyota Genuine Parts Maxwill Engines Cool Team head to Brisbane for
the final round of the World Series Sprintcar tournament and with Brooke holding a
slight points lead, the weekend is an important shoot out for the Krikke team.
Krikke MotorSport’s next race will be Round 14 of Wanless World Series Sprintcars
Speed Week, at Brisbane International Speedway this weekend.
Krikke Motorsport merchandise is now available on-line or direct from the Team
