Brooke was by far the best performing Aussie in the star studded 24 car field and while going into the Parramatta biggie of the summer as the current World Series Champ and the 2009/10 WSS points leader, racing in front of his home Sydney fans, Brooke was certainly on a mission.
Brooke ended night one in sixth position in points and it was only the likes World of Outlaws Champ Donny Schatz, NASCAR superstar Tony Stewart, two other American’s stars and fellow Aussie Robbie Farr in front of the Toyota Genuine Parts sprintcar racer. The qualifying night saw Brooke finishing with solid results but the team knew only too well pay day was night two and with rain again threatening it was all systems go with Brooke and the guys eager to snatch that $50,000 from the American dominance.
After a good result in the dash race Brooke started the 40 lap 50g final from 5th position and right from the green, he was racing hot trying to stop the American attack. Early in the race the yanks were running 1,2,3 & 4 while Skip Jackson and Brooke staged a thrilling battle. Lap after lap, the Aussie pair fought it out and had Tony Stewart the NASCAR champ joining in a they traded positions in what was a superb race battle. Brooke finally forged into third, while both Skip and Stewart were retirements the Toyota Genuine Parts machine set after the two leading American’s. Brooke tried everything and at one stage looked like it might have least secured second from Shaffer but it wasn’t to be with Brooke in the Krikke Motorsport Cool had to settle for third, giving Schatz his 8th victory and Shaffer a second placing.
Brooke started his sprintcar racing at Parramatta and he was the best Aussie last night finishing two places ahead of the next Sydney local which also gave the team a good confidence boost going into the prestigious races in Brisbane over the next few days.
“Third place, well you can only be happy as you can be with 3rd place! We had set up for 40 laps and I think we had a car for 40 laps. Ten laps in I got caught up behind Skip (Jackson) & Tony Stewart and I pulled a tear off, unfortunately I couldn’t get it off so I had to keep wipe off the mud. We got lucky the yellows came out so I got to pull it off the reverse side and we got racing again. I thought we had a good enough car but I really didn’t want to see that last yellow stoppage. I thought I was going to get Tim (Shaffer) at that point and you knew we were pulling Donny in as well. We will take third and our guys did a great job all weekend.”
The guys are off racing in Brisbane tonight and well be in Queensland for the big WSS rounds this weekend before heading back to Parramatta for the two night WSS weekend.
