Oh, What A Feeling
Jodie Krikke - KMS media posted Thursday February 11, 2010.
This past weekend saw Brooke Tatnell win a record breaking 8th World Series Championship, but as well as that, Krikke MotorSport kept an unbroken record of being points leaders for World Series Sprintcars, having remained highest points after every round for the past 3 seasons.
The KMS team pride themselves on their preparation for their racing season and it shows with their having won 4 out of the past 5 World Series Crowns. But team owner Shane Krikke is even more proud of the fact that the KMS #2 Toyota Genuine Parts/AJC/Cool car has lead the competitors after each and every one of the 48 races competed during the past 3 seasons of World Series Sprintcars.
“I am so proud of everyone involved in this team. To win a hat trick of championships really is very special but to have not been anything but on top of the point score night in and night out for 3 seasons really is quite remarkable!! Brooke does an outstanding job for us and Pete Caporn and Shane Finch really do the hard yards with impeccable preparation and overnight drives from track to track. It is great for Krikke Motorsport to have such a stable and settled team year in and year out, it makes a hell of a difference. The same could be said for our loyal sponsors, many of whom have been with us for many years. Without their support none of what we do would be possible.” Krikke went on to say “Now the World Series Championship is in the bag we don’t have to worry about points anymore and we can just let it all hang out as we aim out our final races for the summer including the King of the Wings and the Krikke Boys Shootout.”
In Tatnell’s acceptance speech for winning his 8th World Series Championship, four of which have come in his last five years with Krikke MotorSport, he had this to say about his team “I believe that I race for the best team in this Country, and our consistency is testament to that. I am proud to have been the first guy to reach 8 World Series Championship wins ahead of Max (Dumesny) but that’s not to say that he won’t be back next year and win his 8th also. But I can assure you that we’ll be looking at achieving 10 championship titles and with these guys I am sure that this is a definite possibility.”
And it’s a well known fact that Pete Caporn, the Krikke MotorSport crew chief, is Australia’s leading man when it comes to preparation both on and off the track. He is a guy who doesn’t like to be in the spotlight and whom offers as much praise to his right hand man Shane Finch and of course the driver Tatnell.
“We are a team... We win as a team and we lose as a team. We’re just lucky that most of the time we’re right up there on podium results and have had very little tear-ups or DNF’s during our five year stint with Brooke” commented Caporn. “I guess I’m lucky in that I do this full-time. Most other teams have to try and fit in preparation after they have completed a full day’s work, so in some respects I guess we should be better prepared.”
But preparation isn’t the only factor in the team’s success.
These guys have worked together as a team for 5years now and they know what each other needs and how to go about their jobs with little to no fuss.
Pete is the set-up guy who analyses the track and decides on which shocks to run, what bars to put in the car along with gear ratios and the technical details.
Shane-o is the tyre guy. He selects what compound tyre to use, what air pressure to run and what stagger is needed.
And then there is Brooke. He’s always got the race face on at every meeting and he straps himself in and gets his elbows up as he competes against some of the best sprintcar drivers in the country, choosing where to put the car on every lap of the race, when to run full throttle or when to back off on the horsepower and save tyres and the motor when necessary.
They know what to say to each other, before, during and after the races. They don’t play the blame game if things don’t happen to go their way with their decisions and they’re always there to congratulate each other on a job well done.
These factors plus many others are what makes Krikke MotorSport such a winning team.
And they’re hoping for a continued run of success this weekend as they hit the WA country track in Collie for Round 3 of the Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series.
Krikke MotorSport would like to thank the following sponsors and corporate partners for the support during the upcoming 2009/2010 sprintcar season: Toyota Genuine Parts, AJC All Colour Painting Group, Maxwill Race Engines, Cool Chassis, Mercure Hotel Parramatta, PWR Performance Products, Alberts Car Stereo, Pioneer, Revolution Racegear, BR Motorsports, Vortex, Valvoline, Mega Motors, A.Lucas Spraypainters, GT Fabrication, A1 Sign Shop, Bunbury Toyota and BCM Motorsport Marketing for their much valued support and welcome them as a part of the team.
