Krikke Motorsport Cashes In At Collie
Jodie Krikke - KMS media posted Monday February 15, 2010.

Brooke Tatnell and the team at Krikke Motorsport team were able to break free of the shackles involved in point racing for Championships with a resounding victory at a crowd packed Collie Speedway on Saturday night.

With many high profile sprintcar teams in town for Round 3 of the Southern Thunder Sprintcar Series, the small country track was running at capacity with fans lined up at the entry gates from as early as 1am on the Saturday morning. And they weren’t disappointed with the action that ensued when 20 cars took the field of an unforgiving track.

Tatnell set about his night with a 13.71sec lap in timetrials, narrowly missing out on ‘Quick Time’ by just 100th of a second. In his first heat the KMS Toyota Genuine Parts/AJC/ Cool car came from 6th position through to 3rd, but it wasn’t until his second heat that the crowd got what they came to see, on a track that required skill and tenacity to avoid some huge ruts, Tatnell started from the rear of his heat and managed to pass every car to cross the start finish line in first place.

When interviewed by Andrew Roberts on the infield during interval Shane Krikke had this to say.“On behalf of all the racers here tonight we’d just like to thank all the fans for coming out here and supporting these guys. We’re all here to put on a show for you and hopefully we can be standing up here after the feature race tonight with that big cheque in our hands.”

With the KMS team having run so well during the night, Tatnell was able to go high points which put him off the front row of the ‘A Dash’ which he went on to win convincingly by over the length of the straightaway. This put him off of the inside front row of the A Main with Robbie Farr after he too won his dash event.

Farr got the jump on the KMS WA #2 machine at the start of the 30lap main event and as Tatnell chased him, sticking right on his tail tank, and giving the crowd some exciting fast paced racing and passing of lapped cars. But Farr was unable to make much headway and as they came upon the lapped car of Jamie Maiolo, Farr chose the low line and Tatnell chose the highline and Maiolo became the meat in the sandwich. As all three cars came into the apex of turn one alongside each other, Farr and Maiolo made contact causing them both to spin and Farr to roll, forcing a red light stoppage.

Upon the recommencement of the race and with 12 laps remaining Tatnell was too quick for the remaining field and came away with an astounding win giving Krikke that big cheque he had his eyes on earlier.

“The pressure of the points chase was lifted tonight and we just went out there to race for the win and I’m hoping we not only kept the boss happy by winning him that big cheque he’s been eyeing off all night, but also the fans as well.’ said Tatnell after exiting the car. “Farry and I had some great racing going on there during that feature. What with lapped traffic and an uneven racing surface it sure did get exciting there inside the car there so I hope it made for great viewing for the fans here tonight.”

And after listening to the comments from the fans in the pits after the feature race it would appear that they were very happy with Collie Speedway and the racing on show during the course of the evening.

Krikke MotorSport now return back to the Perth Motorplex Kwinana Beach where they will contest two night’s of hard and fast racing against some of the best sprintcar drivers in the country as they compete for the $20,000 to win King of Wings.
